GU Wins Team Point Title at the GW Invitational Crew Classic

The Georgetown crews took two first-place finishes, five seconds, and two third-place finishes to capture the Gilbert H. Hood, Jr. Point Trophy at the 14th Annual George Washington Invitational Crew Classic Saturday on the Potomac River.

Georgetown amassed 73 team points, two more than second-place Navy en route to the team point title. Virginia (44 points) placed third in the team standings followed by the host Colonials of George Washington (25 points).

The Hoyas Men's Varsity Lightweight Eight squad, coxed by senior John-Paul Van Arsdale (Naples, FL) and manned by strokeman Geoff Sonn (Sr., Wenatchee, WA), Joseph Swanson (Sr., Minneapolis, MN), James Hurley (Sr., Visalia, CA), Brian MacLaughlin (So., Cape Elizabeth, ME), captain Jeffrey Anchukaitis (Sr., Niskayuna, NY), Brian Godoy (Jr., Tewksbury, MA), Andrew Adler (So., Los Angeles, CA), and bowman Brian Kane (Sr., Naples, FL) posted one of Georgetown's two first-place finishes. Their time of 5:16.50 bettered Navy by 1.27 seconds.

Georgetown's other first-place finish was accomplished in the Men's Varsity Four. The Hoyas finished in a time of 6:13.03, nearly nine seconds better than second place finisher Temple (6:13.03).
