Georgetown Football Announces 2005 Captains and Post Season Honors

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Georgetown University head football coach Bob Benson announced the 2005 captains on Saturday, January 15 at the Georgetown Gridiron Club Awards Banquet. Benson named current juniors Maurice Banks (Clinton, Md. / Gwynn Park), Michael Ononibaku (Amherst, Mass./Amherst), and Kim Sarin (Roseville, Minn./Cretin-Derham) the captains of the 2005 football squad. In addition to the captains being named, several awards were handed out.

In addition to being named captain for the 2005 campaign, Ononibaku was the honoree of two awards: the Al Blozis Award for Most Valuable Player and the Joseph Eacobacci Memorial Jersey Award. This is the second consecutive season that Ononibaku was honored with the Joseph Eacobacci Memorial Jersey Award. Ononibaku was named to the All-Patriot League First Team and ended the 2004 season as the Patriot League's leader in tackles for a loss with 1.68 per game and tied for the league lead in total sacks with 10.5. Ononibaku also ranked tied for eighth in the nation in both sacks and tackles for loss as well as ranking fifth all-time at Georgetown in sacks with 20.5.

As well as being named captain for the 2005 season, Sarin was given the John L. Hagerty Award for Outstanding Back. Sarin, who was the first Hoya ever to gain over 1,000 yards in one season with 1,051 in 2004, ranks eighth all?time at Georgetown in career rushing yards with 1,416 and finished the season fourth in the Patriot League for rushing yards per game with 95.5.

Senior Frank Terrazzino (Needham, Mass./Needham) was honored with the George A. Murtagh Award for Outstanding Lineman. A four-year starter on the offensive line, mainly at right guard, Terrazzino was a tri-captain for the 2004 campaign and started every game of his career.

Sophomore Julius Griauzde (Riverside, Ill. / Fenwick) received the Mush Dubofsky Award for Outstanding Student-Athlete. A math/pre-med major, Griauzde started every game for the Hoyas at defensive tackle and totaled 35 tackles and tallied one sack.

Senior tri-captain Brandon Small (Hyattsville, Md. / Northwestern) was honored with the John D. Burke Award for Outstanding Courage and Spirit. Small, a three-year starter for the Hoyas, totaled 32 tackles at defensive end.

Senior wide receiver Janeiro Wooten (Oxon Hill, Md. / Oxon Hill) received the Jeremiah Minihan Coaches Award. Wooten, who started the entire season, led the team in receptions with 24. Wooten totaled 411 yards and scored two touchdowns.
