Georgetown University to Honor Former Coach E. Scott Glacken on Saturday, September 8

Sept. 4, 2007

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University Department of Athletics will honor long-time former football coach E. Scott Glacken this weekend at the Multi-Sport Field when the Hoyas play their home opener. Georgetown kicks off against Patriot League rival Lafayette at 1 p.m. on the Hilltop. The game will be shown live on MASN , with Rick Laubach and John Leone calling the action.

At halftime of the game, Georgetown University will honor Glacken, who passed away last December. The contest versus Lafayette will be the first home football competition since the former head coach passed away last December.

In 1968, Scotty Glacken came to Georgetown as a young 24-year old assistant, helping his old high school coach, Mush Dubofsky on the sidelines. A former local star quarterback at St. John's College High, former all-conference player at Duke, and former professional with the Denver Broncos, Scotty Glacken was subsequently named head coach in 1970. When he stepped down as head coach of the Hoyas 23 years later, Scotty was the winningest (98 wins) and longest tenured coach in Georgetown football history.

Scotty and his dedicated staff of assistant coaches twice coached teams ranked among the top-10 college squads in the East. The 1978 team closed at 7-1, Georgetown's best record since 1939, falling one point short of finishing the season undefeated. His 1991 team combined for school record marks in total offense as well as passing offense. Scotty was inducted into Georgetown's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.

The game will be followed by the 10th Annual Kickoff Reception, hosted by Mr. David Goracy (C'71) at the Observatory Gardens adjacent to Yates Field House.

Due to NCAA regulations, parents and family of current players must pay the nominal fee of $15 per person to attend.
