Georgetown Football Players Etukeren and Tomlinson Earn ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Honors

Nov. 6, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C - Georgetown University senior football players Ataefiok Etukeren (Phoenix, Ariz./The Lawrenceville School [N.J.]) and Brent Tomlinson (Hoffman Estates, Ill./St. Viator) were named to the 2008 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 2 First Team on Thursday, as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Georgetown was one of only three schools with multiple selections to the first team, joined by Penn State (7) and fellow Patriot League school Bucknell (2).

Etukeren, a defensive end, carries a 3.33 cumulative grade-point average in operations management, with minors in marketing and theology. A three-year starter, Etukeren is fourth on the team in tackles (44) and leads the team in sacks (4.5) and tackles-for-loss (11). He ranks second in the Patriot League in sacks and is fourth in the league in tackles-for-loss.

Tomlinson, a wide receiver, carries a 3.86 grade-point average in finance. The senior was one of the founding members of Hoyas for Christ, an ecumenical Christian group consisting of student-athletes from almost every athletic team at Georgetown. He is fourth on the team in receptions (14) and third in yardage (146).

Georgetown plays its final home game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 8, hosting Marist in a non-league game. Kickoff at the Multi-Sport Field is slated for 12:30 p.m.
