Samuel and O'Donoghue Named First Team Football Academic All-District

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown law student Marc Samuel (Anchorage, Ky./Univ. of Kentucky) and senior Ryan O'Donoghue (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) have been selected to the 2000 GTE Academic All-District II Football Team. Both players names will now appear on the GTE Academic All-America national ballot. Georgetown senior Mark Shea (Manchester, Mo./St. Louis University HS) and junior Eric Speron (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) were named to the Second Team.

Samuel, a placekicker, has been named to the GTE All-District Team the last two seasons. He earned District 4 accolades last season at the University of Kentucky. Samuel had a 3.89 grade-point average as an undergraduate and is in his first year in the Georgetown University Law Center. He has made 28 of his 30 extra-point attempts and is five-for-six in field goal attempts, including a field record 51-yarder at Duquesne.

O'Donoghue is a two-time All-District selection as well. The senior leads the team with 74 tackles, including 44 solo stops. O'Donoghue, one of the team's captains, also has two tackles for losses and has three pass breakups. He has also forced a fumble. O'Donoghue has a 3.63 grade-point average and is majoring in management.

Shea and Speron are first time selections to the All-District Team. Shea, a linebacker, has a 3.39 grade-point average in management. He has a sack, three tackles for a loss, and two pass breakups. Shea is also fifth on the team with 48 tackles and has forced and recovered a fumble. Speron has 30 tackles thus far this season. He is third on the team with four sacks and is tied for second on the team with six tackles for a loss. In addition, he has forced a team-best three fumbles and has blocked two kicks
