Junior Tim Hager (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) carded an even-par 72 and is tied for sixth place overall and the Georgetown University men's golf team is tied for eighth place after the first round of play at the BIG EAST Championship, being held at the Traditions Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The 12-team field teed off in cool and rainy conditions and Marquette jumped out to the first round lead, firing a three-over par 291, three strokes ahead of Seton Hall, second in six-over par 294. Defending champion Louisville is in a tie for third with Notre Dame at eight-over 296. St. John's finished the day in fifth at 12-over par 300. Host Cincinnati and Connecticut are sixth at 301 (+13), Georgetown and DePaul are eighth with 302 (+14), USF is in 10th (+16, 304), Villanova carded a 305 (+17) for 11th and Rutgers is in 12th at 307 (+19). Marquette senior Ted Gray fired a four-under par 68 to lead the individual field. DePaul junior Cory Blenkush, Notre Dame junior Josh Sandman, senior Keegan Bradley of St. John's and junior John Zur of Seton Hall all finished at one-under 71. Senior David Praet (Oakland Township, Mich./Notre Dame Prep) and junior Garrett Logan (Henderson, Nev./Bishop Gorman) each posted scores of three-over par 75 and are tied for 21st place. Sophomore Vincenzo Salina (Vandoeuvres, Switzerland/Institut Florimont), who has been one of the team's top players during the spring season, struggled in the first round with an eight-over par 80, tying for 49th place with junior Patrick Sherry (Brookeville, Md./Landon).
