The Georgetown University women's golf team posted the third-best team score of the day and moved up to fourth place, while the Hoya men's golf team shot an 18-over par 306 and are tied for eighth place after the second day of play at the BIG EAST Golf Championship, being held at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky. (outside Louisville). The Georgetown women's squad posted a second round score of 22-over par 310 and stand fourth of seven teams with a two-day score of 52-over par 628. Notre Dame leads the field at 17-over part 593, four strokes ahead of Louisville (21-over par 597) and 23 ahead of South Florida (40-over par 616). Louisville's Cindy LaCrosse posted a one-over par 73 in the second round and leads the field of 34 golfers with a one-under par 143, two strokes ahead of Notre Dame's Annie Brophy and Louisville's Adrienne White. On the men's side, the Hoyas are tied for eighth place with Connecticut at 32-over par 608. Louisville leads the 12-team field at 14-under par 562, with Notre Dame 16 strokes back in second place at two-over par 578. Marquette (eight-over par 584), DePaul (nine-over par 585) and St. John's (10-over par 586) round out the top-five teams. Daryl Fathauer of Louisville leads the field of 60 golfers on the men's side with a five-under par 139, two strokes of ahead of Adam Gifford from Notre Dame, Adam Hadwin of Louisville and Adam Rainaud of Louisville, all tied for second at three-under par 141. Georgetown junior Jenna Winokur (Springlake, N.J./Wall) made a big move on Monday, carding a two-over par 74, one of only seven scores in the field of 34 golfers lower than 75 on the day. She is tied for 11th place at 12-over par 156, two strokes ahead of classmate Katie Dwyer (Allentown, Pa./Moravian Academy), who is tied for 15th place at 14-over par 158. Sophomore Chelsea Curtis (Mashpee, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) shot a nine-over par 81 in the second round and is tied for 18th place at 15-over par 159, while sophomore Carly Hunt (Easton, Pa./Conestoga) and senior Maggie Ward (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) are tied for 21st place at 16-over par 160.
For the Hoya men, senior Tim Moynihan (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) shot a four-over par 76 for the second-straight day and is tied for 31st place at eight-over par 152, while sophomore Tim Hager (Ivyland, Pa.) and senior Matt Busa (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) are tied for 33rd place, one stroke behind, at nine-over par 153. Freshman Donald Thomas (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) is tied for 39th place at 10-over par 154 and Trevor Matese (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) posted a four-over par 76 and is tied for 50th place at 12-over par 156. This year's championship is being held at two different locations, the men are playing at the par 72, 7,036-yard Cardinal Club, while the women are competing at the par 72, 6,067-yard Oxmoor Country Club.
