The Georgetown women's golf team stood its ground in fourth place while the Hoya men's golf team posted its best round of the week and finished in eighth place at the final day of the BIG EAST Golf Championship, held at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky. (outside Louisville). The University of Louisville men and women captured the team titles. The Cardinals men's squad fired a 20-under par 844 to finish 12 strokes ahead of Notre Dame. On the women's side, Louisville made up three strokes entering the final round of play, forced a sudden-death playoff with Notre Dame, and shot even-par to claim the team title. Daryl Fathauer of Louisville shot a seven-under par 209 to take medalist honors on the men's side, while Louisville's Cindy LaCrosse shot a three-under par 213 to win the women's title. On the men's side, Georgetown shot a three-over par 291, its best round of the week, and finished the three-day tournament at 35-over par 899, three strokes behind Connecticut and Cincinnati, who tied for sixth place. For the Hoya men, senior Tim Moynihan (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) was one of three players to shoot an even-par 72 in the final day of play. He finished in a tie for 24th place at eight-over par 224. Senior Matt Busa (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) carded an even-par 72 to finish at nine-over par 225 and in a tie for 29th place, while freshman Donald Thomas (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) shot a 72 and tied for 32nd place at 10-over par 226. Sophomore Tim Hager (Ivyland, Pa.) shot a three-over par 75 in the final round and tied for 37th place at 12-over par 228 and freshman Trevor Matese (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) posted a seven-over par 79 and tied for 56th place at 19-over par 235. The Georgetown women's team shot a final round 15-over par 303 - its best of the week - and finished in fourth place in the seven-team field with a 67-over par 931, 15 strokes behind South Florida (52-over par 916). Notre Dame and Louisville tied for first place at 27-over par 891. Sophomore Chelsea Curtis (Mashpee, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) shot an even-par 72 in the final round and tied for 12th place with junior Jenna Winokur (Springlake, N.J./Wall), who shot a three-over par 75, at 15-over par 231. Sophomore Carly Hunt (Easton, Pa./Conestoga) and junior Katie Dwyer (Allentown, Pa./Moravian Academy) tied for 17th place at 21-over par 237. Hunt shot a final round five-over par 77 and Dwyer carded a seven-over par 79. Senior Maggie Ward (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) finished in 22nd place at 25-over par 241, shooting a final round nine-over par 81. This year's championship is being held at two different locations, the men are playing at the par 72, 7,036-yard Cardinal Club, while the women are competing at the par 72, 6,067-yard Oxmoor Country Club.
