5/12/2004 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Georgetown University men’s golf head coach Tommy Hunter was named the 2004 BIG EAST Men’s Golf Coach of the Year. Voting was conducted among the nine men’s conference coaches, who were not permitted to vote for themselves. Hunter, in his 19th season at Georgetown, led the Hoyas into the NCAA Tournament for just the second time under his tenure. Georgetown is a #20 seed in the 2004 Eastern Regional of this year’s championship that begins next week on Thursday, May 20, in New Haven, Connecticut. Georgetown finished third or better in eight of the 10 tournaments it participated in this season, including a third place finish at the 2004 BIG EAST Championship as four of five Hoya golfers placed in the top 15. The Hoyas won four tournaments during the course of the year, claiming team victories at The Navy Invitational, The James Madison Invitational, The Big Five Invitational and the Kingsmill/William and Mary Invitational. Hunter is a D.C. native growing up in Bethesda, Maryland and attending Gonzaga High School. He currently resides in Rockville, Maryland with his wife Lisa, two daughters Patty (17) and Maggie (1) and one son, Coley (3).
