Georgetown Men's Golf Team Announces Fall Schedule

July 23, 2008

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown men's golf team unveiled its fall schedule Wednesday. The team will compete in five tournaments, beginning its season in the first weekend of September.

The team opens its season September 6-7 at the Maryland Collegiate Invitational. The tournament, hosted by Maryland, will be played at the Hyatt Regency River Marsh Golf Club in Cambridge, Md. The team then travels to Lemont, Ill., on Sept. 21-22 for DePaul's annual John Dallio Memorial. The event will be held at the 6,898-yard, par-72 Ruffled Feathers Golf Club.

The Hoyas will head to familiar grounds when they compete at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, where they finished 12th last fall. Rising junior Vincenzo Salina (Vandoeuvres, Switzerland/Institut Florimont) led the team, shooting rounds of 71-69-71 (211) and tying for fourth place at even-par. This year's edition of the Classic will be held Oct. 6-7 at the 7,023-yard, par-70 Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.

The 24th annual Georgetown Intercollegiate will be held Oct. 20-21 at The Members Club at Four Streams, a challenging and nationally-recognized 7,102-yard, par-71 course in Beallsville, Md. The Blue and Gray will welcome their strongest field to date to the 54-hole event, including 2002 NCAA Champion Minnesota, Campbell, 2007 Georgetown Intercollegiate Champion DePaul, Detroit-Mercy, Gonzaga, St. John's, St. Joseph's, Miami (Ohio), Richmond, UNC-Greensboro and William & Mary. Georgetown finished sixth at 43-over-par 895 in the 12-team field last year.

In its final tournament of the fall, the Hoyas travel to Absecon, N.J., for the NCAA East Regional Preview. The tournament, hosted by Columbia, will be played Oct. 24-26 at the 6,901-yard, par-71 Galloway National Golf Club, which ranks among Golf Magazine's top 100 modern courses.
