GU Men’s Golfer Cook Ends Summer Season in US Amateur Championship

8/26/2002

Washington, D.C. – Junior men’s golfer Nick Cook (Shelton, Conn./Fairfield Prep) participated in the 2002 US Amateur Championship in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. on August 19-20.  The event was held on the 6,988-yard, par-70 South Course at Oakland Hills Country Club.  Cook shot a 76 on the first day and bested that score in round two with a 75.  He did not qualify for match play.

Cook is Georgetown’s first golfer to ever qualify for the US Amateur Championship. He shot a 67 and a 73 in the US Amateur Qualifying Tournament held in New Canaan, Conn. placing him third overall and qualifying him for the national event.

Cook will rejoin the Hoya golf team as a team captain for the 2002-03 season. GU opens the year at the Navy Invitational on September 7-8.
