Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's golf team will travel to Lemont, Ill. this weekend to join 14 teams in teeing off at the John Dallio Memorial 54-hole Tournament. The tournament will be played at the Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Ill. The course is 6,898 yards, and is a par-72 course. Teams will tee off Sunday, Sept. 21 at 7 a.m. This is the first year Georgetown has played in John Dallio tournament. In addition to DePaul hosting, Georgetown, Youngstown State, Bradley, Evansville, Seton Hall, Northern Iowa, Detroit-Mercy, Nova Southeastern, Dayton, Eastern Illinois, Southern Illinois, Drake, Loyola-Chicago, Wright State and Notre Dame will also be in attendance. The Hoyas opened their season Sept. 7-8 at the Maryland Collegiate Invitational in Cambridge, Md. The Invitational was played at the River Marsh Golf Course at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort. Overall, the Hoyas placed 11th of 18. Seniors, Tim Hager (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) and Garret Logan (Henderson, Nev./Bishop Gorman) led the Hoyas. Hager tied for 17th place individually posting 1-over-par 143. Logan tied for 32nd posting 4-over-par 146. The Hoyas are also led by junior Vincenzo Salina (Vandoeuvres, Switzerland/Institut Florimont). Salina posted two top-10 finishes in 2007 and is second on the team with a stroke average of 74.30. In addition to Salina, junior Trevor Matese (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) played in four tournaments for the Hoyas in 2007 posting a 78.30 stroke average The Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Ill. was designed by Pete Dye. The stylish 18-hole course has been recognized by Golf Digest and Golf Week in the past as Best New Course. The course is home to the DePaul Blue Demons. John Dallio (1978-2003) was a former DePaul golfer who lost his battle with a brain tumor; the tournament is named in his honor.
Following the John Dallio Memorial Tournament, the Hoyas are set to tee off at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic in South Bend, Ind. on Oct. 6, 2008. |
