Final Stats

Washington, D.C. - Fourth-ranked Georgetown scored six first half goals and added two more in the fourth quarter en route to an 8-6 season-opening win at No. 5 Maryland Saturday afternoon. The win was the first for the Hoyas in three years over the Terrapins, who had beaten the Blue and Gray in the season opener.

Freshman Andrew Brancaccio (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) scored three goals, junior Dan D'Agnes (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) tallied two goals and an assist, junior Andrew Baird (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) added a goal and two assists and junior Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) chipped in one goal and one assist en route to the win.

The Hoyas took a 6-1 lead at the break, but Maryland scored four times in the third quarter, narrowing the gap to 6-5 entering the fourth quarter.

A goal from Chris Feifs early in the fourth quarter tied the game at 6-all, but D'Agnes took a feed from Baird with 9:02 remaining in the game to break the tie and give the Hoyas a 7-6 lead. Cannon sealed the win on a goal with 25 seconds left in the game, giving the Blue and Gray the season-opening victory.

Georgetown took an early 2-0 lead after goals from Baird, with an assist from sophomore Cullen Molinari (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset), and Brancaccio. Maryland cut the gap to 2-1, but Brancaccio responded with 5:51 left in the quarter, giving the Hoyas a 3-1 lead.

Cannon assisted D'Agnes on his first goal of the day at 13:46 of the second quarter, increasing GU's lead to 4-1. Two minutes later, sophomore Jake Samperton (Bethesda, Md./Landon) scored on an assist from Molinari, giving the Hoyas a 5-1 lead. The lead grew to 6-1 when Brancaccio scored his third goal of the day, this time with an assist from Baird.

The Terrapins scored four unanswered goals in the third quarter and tied the game early in the fourth quarter, but Baird found D'Agnes for the eventual game-winning score.

Junior goalie Miles Kass (Rye, N.Y./Hotchkiss) recorded 12 saves and has six ground balls in the win.
