Washington, D.C. - Three players scored two goals apiece and sophomore Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./Haverford School) had four assists, leading No. 10 Georgetown to a 9-5 win over St. John's in an ECAC men's lacrosse game at the Multi-Sports Field on Saturday afternoon.

It was the first win of the season for the Hoyas, who improve to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Red Storm fall to 1-1 and 0-1 in the conference.

After a quiet start to the game, Georgetown jumped on top with three goals in a three-minute span midway through the first quarter. Senior Pete Cannon (Haverford, Pa./Haverford School) got things going with an unassisted goal at the 8:04 mark. Two minutes later, senior Mike White (Westwood, Mass./St. Sebastian's) took a feed from Brendan Cannon, giving the Hoyas a 2-0 lead at 5:56. Less than a minute later, the Georgetown margin grew to three goals when Dave Paolisso (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored on an unassisted shot.

The Hoyas would add two more goals in the first quarter, with the younger Cannon assisting both shots. With 2:32 remaining, Cannon's pass set up a goal for sophomore Matt McBride (Ridgewood, N.J./Delbarton), and then he set up Pete Cannon for a goal at 1:53, giving GU a 5-0 lead at the end of the quarter.

St. John's got back into it, scoring three times in the first three minutes of the second quarter. Bobby Fitton, Rob Gannon and Tom Michaelsen scored goals for the Red Storm, cutting the Hoya lead to 5-3 with 11:19 to play in the half. Junior Trevor Casey (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) took a pass from Brendan Cannon and scored with 10:53 to play, increasing the lead to 6-3. St. John's responded with a goal from Jack Rosson, but the Hoyas got back-to-back goals - one from McBride and one from Paolisso - to take an 8-4 lead into the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, St. John's but the Hoya lead to 8-5 on a goal from Rosson, but senior Keith Schroeder (Summit, N.Y./Summit) scored an unassisted goal with 4:01 to play, closing out the scoring.

Pete Cannon, Paolisso and McBride each scored two goals for the Hoyas, while Casey, Schroeder and White tallied one apiece. Sophomore Andrew Baird (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) assisted Paolisso's second goal.

Georgetown out-shot St. John's, 37-26, and had 48 groundballs to the Red Storm's 38, while teams each won eight face-offs. Sophomore goalie Miles Kass (Rye, N.Y./Hotchkiss) recorded seven saves for the Hoyas.

Georgetown returns to action on Friday, March 10, playing at fifth-ranked Syracuse. Face-off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
