Washington, D.C. - Syracuse scored four goals in the fourth quarter and Brendan Loftus tallied the game-winner 46 seconds into the second overtime period as the fifth-ranked Orange topped ninth-ranked Georgetown, 9-8, in front of 4.819 fans at the Carrier Dome Sunday afternoon. Georgetown falls to 1-2 this season, while Syracuse improved to 3-1. The Hoyas held a 5-3 advantage at the half and scored two more times in the third quarter, holding a 7-4 advantage heading into the final 15 minutes of play. Syracuse scored three-straight goals, tying the game on a shot from Stephen Keogh with 6:10 left in the game. Georgetown took an 8-7 with 1:42 to play when freshman attack Max Seligmann (Essex Falls, N.J./Delbarton) tallied an unassisted goal. The Hoyas appeared ready to close the door for their second-straight win at Syracuse, but Steven Brooks scored with just two seconds left to send the game into overtime. After a scoreless first period, Loftus scored his fourth goal of the game just under a minute into the second frame, giving the Orange the thrilling win. The Hoyas had jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after first quarter goals from seniors Dan D'Agnes (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and Scott Kahoe (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) and another to open the second quarter from senior Andrew Baird (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield). The Orange scored three times in the second quarter, but goals from sophomore Andrew Brancaccio (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep) and Baird gave the Hoyas a 5-3 lead at the break. Leading by two at the half, the Hoyas extended their margin when senior Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) scored with 9:22 to play in the third. After a Syracuse goal, Brancaccio tallied his second score of the game, giving the Hoyas a 7-4 lead entering the final quarter. Georgetown had 26 shots, while Syracuse took 57. Senior goalie Miles Kass (Rye, N.Y./Hotchkiss) made a career-high 19 saves and had four ground balls. The Orange won 17-of-21 face-offs and held a 46-27 advantage in ground balls. The Hoyas return home to host Delaware on Wednesday, March 12. Face-off at the Multi-Sport Field is slated for 3:30 p.m.
