Georgetown University's ECAC Men's Lacrosse League Championship team had two players earn player of the year honors and Head Coach Dave Urick was recognized in All-League honors announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Hoyas, ranked No. 4 in the country by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Top 25 poll, finished the regular season with an 11-2 overall record and a 7-0 mark in the ECAC, winning their second-straight league championship. It was the sixth time in eight years that Georgetown has won the league title. Urick, in his 18th year at the helm of the Blue and Gray program, was named the league's Coach of the Year. It was the second time that Urick has garnered league honors, the first in 2000. Urick, who won his 300th career game earlier this season, has a 305-99 record in 28 years of coaching, including a 183-69 record at Georgetown. Two Georgetown players earned first team All-League honors from the ECAC, including junior Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School), who was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year, and senior Jerry Lambe (North Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale), who was selected as the league's Defensive Player of the Year. Cannon has been named to the ECAC All-League first team the last two years. He earned Offensive Player of the Year honors after leading Georgetown in scoring with a career-high 20 goals and 21 assists for 41 points. The junior, who was named the league's preseason offensive player of the year, ranks 18th in the country in assists per game (1.62) and is 29th in the country in points per game (3.15). Cannon ranks eighth all-time at Georgetown in career assists (61) and is 16th in all-time scoring, with 110 points. He has scored at least one point in 34-straight games, dating back to the 2005 season. Lambe, the league's preseason defensive player of the year, earned the award after guiding the Hoya defense to one of its stingiest seasons. Georgetown held 11 of its 13 opponents to less than 10 goals and has a streak of eight-straight games in which its opponent has not reached double digits. Lambe, who is one of 17 finalists for the Tewaaraton Trophy recognizing the top player in Division I lacrosse, has consistently covered the opponent's top scorer. He has recorded 24 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. Defender Barney Ehrmann (Baltimore, Md./The Gilman School) was the lone Georgetown player selected to the ECAC All-League second team and was the only freshman among 23 players on the first or second team. Ehrmann has appeared in every game this season and started four times. He is fourth on the team with 37 ground balls and leads the squad with 14 caused turnovers. In nine ECAC games, Erhmann has 21 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. Cannon is the fourth Georgetown player to be named the league's offensive player of year, and it is the fifth time a Hoya has earned the honor (Andy Flick, 2000; Steve Dusseau, 2001, 2002; Walid Hajj, 2004). Two other players have earned defensive player of the year honors (Kyle Sweeney and Brodie Merrill) and a Hoya has been recognized with that award four times (Sweeney, 2001, 2002; Merrill, 2005). Since the ECAC was formed in 2000, 23 Georgetown men's lacrosse players have earned 32 first team honors, while 14 players have earned 15 second team honors. Overall, 28 Hoya players have earned 47 all-league honors from the ECAC. Georgetown plays in the 2007 NCAA Tournament this weekend, hosting Princeton on Sunday, May 13 at noon at the Multi-Sport Field on the Hilltop. The Hoyas, seeded No. 6 in the NCAA Tournament, will be making their 11th-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Tickets for the NCAA Tournament can be purchased for $10 for adults, and $6 for people 18-years-old and under.
