June 6, 2006 Washington, D.C. - Three members of the Georgetown University men's lacrosse team were selected in the Major League Lacrosse Draft, held this past weekend in Connecticut. Senior defender Reyn Garnett (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Deerfield Academy) was selected in the third round, No. 26 overall, by the New Jersey Pride. Two more Hoya players - graduate student Dave Paolisso (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and senior Pete Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) - were selected in the fourth round. Paolisso was taken with the fifth pick of the fourth round, No. 36 overall, by the Pride, while Cannon went with the next pick, No. 37 overall, to the Philadelphia Barrage. The Hoyas finished the 2006 season with a 12-3 overall record and won the ECAC Lacrosse League Championship for the fifth time in the last seven years. Georgetown, ranked No. 5 in the country in the final polls by Inside Lacrosse and STX/USILA, reached the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight year and for the eighth time in the last nine years. Garnett capped off his stellar career by earning second team All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. A two-time first team All-ECAC selection, Garnett led a defensive unit that ranked among the top-15 in the country in scoring defense. One of 25 semifinalists for the Tewaaraton Trophy, he led Georgetown with 67 ground balls this year. Garnett accumulated 157 in his career, which ranks 14th all-time in school history, and twice earned All-America honors. "Overall, we knew we didn't have any high draft selections, but we're pretty happy with what we left the day with,'' New Jersey Pride General Manager Trey Reeder said. "We knew going in that we were going to have to draft the best player on the board that was there when we were on the clock, and we did that with Reyn Garnett.'' Paolisso, a middie who earned third team All-America honors from the USILA, was second on the team in scoring with 28 points. He scored a team-high 24 goals, with four assists this season, setting career-highs in both marks. He was named the ECAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week on March 13 after scoring three goals in Georgetown's 10-8 win at then-No. 7 Syracuse. In the team's season-ending loss to Virginia, Paolisso led the team with four goals. Cannon was a third team All-America selection by the USILA and earned first team All-ECAC honors as well. He finished fourth on the team in scoring with 22 points off of 12 goal and 10 assists, which ranked second on the team. Cannon, who was an honorable mention All-America last year, had nine multiple-point games this year and finished his career with 64 points (42 goals, 22 assists). Cannon was the lone Hoya representative at the 65th Annual North-South Game, scoring two goals and adding one assist. The game, which matched players from Division I and II schools against those from Division III, was won by Cannon's squad. Garnett and Paolisso will be teaming up with some familiar faces, as Hoya assistant coach Scott Urick plays for the Pride, as well as 2004 graduate Walid Hajj and 2005 graduate Andy Corno. Cannon, meanwhile, will team up with former Hoya Kyle Sweeney.
