Urick Helps Lead Team USA to Three Wins at World Lacrosse Championships

July 17, 2006

Washington, D.C. - Former Georgetown University men's lacrosse player, and current Hoya assistant coach, Scott Urick celebrated his 29th birthday on Sunday with a goal during the United States' 13-12 win over Canada in the third day of play at the International Lacrosse Foundation (ILF) World Lacrosse Championships in Ontario, Canada.

Urick, and former Hoya All-American Kyle Sweeney, have helped Team USA to a perfect 3-0 start in the traditionally more competitive Blue Division at the ILF World Championships. The win over Canada was the 35th-consecutive win for the United States at the event.

Through three games, Urick is fourth on the United States squad in scoring, tallying 10 goals for 10 points. He has three power-play goals and one short-handed score. Urick's 10 goals are the most on Team USA.

The championships started on Friday, with the United States posting a 20-8 win over Australia. Urick scored three times in that game.

On Saturday, Team USA cruised to a 25-5 win over England. Urick scored six goals in that game, while Sweeney added one.

Sunday's win pitted Urick and Sweeney against another former Hoya, Brodie Merrill, who is a starting defender the Canadian national team.

The United States continues play on Monday afternoon, facing the Iroquois Nation at 4 p.m. On Tuesday, they face Japan at 12:30 p.m. in the final game of round robin play.
