9/14/2002 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Georgetown University defeated Providence College, 3-1, in men's BIG EAST soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Saturday, September 14. Freshman forward Ben Jefferson-Dow (Seattle, Wash./ Roosevelt) led the Hoyas as he scored two goals, including the gamewinner. Georgetown opened the scoring quickly as Jefferson-Dow tallied the first goal of the contest in the 10th minute. Jefferson-Dow headed in a direct kick from the sophomore Trevor Goodrich (Palo Alto, Calif./ Palo Alto) who sent the ball across from the right side. Providence evened the game in the 60th minute when senior Mauricio Solano converted on a penalty kick. The Friars carried the play and threatened to take the lead before Jefferson-Dow netted the gamewinner in the 78 minute. Jefferson-Dow took a high cross and scored on a bicycle kick from 10 yards in front of the goal. Freshman Kemmons Feldman (Eden Prarie, Minn./ Minnehaha Academy) added an insurance goal for the Hoyas in the 83rd minute. Junior goalkeepr Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va./ Freeman)made six saves to earn the win for Georgetown. Friar senior goalkeeper Michael Greulich recorded five stops. With the win, Georgetown improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the BIG EAST, while Providence fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in league play. Georgetown University returns to action on Tuesday, September 17 at Towson at 3:30 p.m.
