Washington, D.C. - Sean Bellomy (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep), a senior midfielder for the Georgetown University men's soccer squad, has been named to the 2008 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team. The award was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Bellomy is a senior captain for the Hoyas and a first time honoree. He was one of 11 recipients in the District II University Division. Bellomy was one of just six student-athletes from the BIG EAST to earn first team honors in their respective divisions. Some of the criteria for selection include a sophomore standing or better, a starter or important reserve and at least a 3.30 cum GPA. The last time a Hoya received ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team honors was 2003. Bellomy has seen significant minutes in 15 of GU's 16 games this season with a pair of starts to his credit. The business major scored his sixth career goal earlier this year versus Hartford. He has been a BIG EAST Academic All-Star all three seasons on the Hilltop. The Hoyas are currently 9-4-3 on the season with a 4-3-3 mark in the BIG EAST putting them in third place in the Blue Division. Georgetown will close out the regular season at home on Saturday versus Marquette. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at North Kehoe Field. There will be a short presentation honoring Bellomy and his fellow seniors prior to the starting lineups.
