Hoyas knock off top-seeded Rutgers, 2-0 Storrs, Conn. (Nov. 12, 1999) -- Senior midfielder Mert Incekara (Istanbul, Turkey/Kadikoy Anatolian) had a goal and an assist as Georgetown upset top-seeded Rutgers, 2-0 in the BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship. With the win, the Hoyas advanced to the Championship game on Sunday. The Hoyas (11-8-1) will face second-seed and ninth-ranked Connecticut on Sunday at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. Incekara put the Hoyas in the lead just nine minutes into the game. Georgetown held the 15th-ranked Scarlet Knights (12-5-3) scoreless the rest of the half as the Hoyas took a 1-0 lead into the half. In the game's 59th minute, Incekara fed sophomore Ken Owens (Washington, D.C./Wilson), who gave the Hoyas a two-goal lead. Senior goalkeeper Tyler Purtill (Glastonbury, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) came up big once again in goal. He made five saves in recording his sixth complete shutout of the season. He has not allowed a goal in two postseason games this season. The Hoyas and Huskies begin play on Sunday at 12 p.m. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
