Georgetown Swimming and Diving Defeats St. Francis (N.Y.)

    The Georgetown men's and women's swimming and diving team defeated St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday. The men's team won by a score of 119.5-85.5, while the women were victorious, 121-84. The women were involved in a dual meet and defeated St. Francis (Pa.), 123-82.

    The Georgetown women's team swept the top three spots in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events on its way to a pair of victories. Sophomore Lauren Moynihan (South Hadley, Mass.) was the individual winner of the 1,000 free at 10:49.52. Freshman Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y.) was second at 11:07.14, while fellow freshman Erin Kehoe (Haddon Heights, N.J.) was third with a time of 11:09.57. In the 500 freestyle, junior captain Amanda Anderson (Denville, N.J.) took the top spot with a time of 5:20.64. She narrowly beat out Lauren Moynihan, who swam the event in 5:20.78. Kehoe finished in third overall at 5:25.48.

    Geena McKeel (Tampa, Fla.) was also an individual winner in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:11.32. Sophomore Kristie Hunt (Glenview, Ill.) placed second with a time of 1:11.98. The Hoyas placed second in both the 400-yard medley and the 400-yard freestyle relay. In the 400-yard medley, sophomore Francesca DiSilvio (Hingham, Mass.), sophomore Liz D'Auria (Newton, Mass.), junior captain Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn.) and sophomore Kristie Hunt (Glenview, Ill.) finished in a time of 4:14.70. In the 400 freestyle, the team of D'Auria, sophomore Katy Hayes (Charlotesville, Va.), sophomore Erin Lenahan (Western Springs, Ill.) and Newman swam the event in 3:47.40.

    The men's performance was highlighted by sweeping the top three places in the 400-yard freestyle relay, paced by the winning team of sophomore Jim McLauglin (Plantsville, Conn.), junior Matt O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz.), senior Michael Weiss (Margate, N.J.), and freshman Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan).

    Georgetown finished with five individual first-places against the Terriers, including three top finishes in freestyle events. Junior Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va.) placed first in the 100-yard free with a time of 47.43, while Enters took the top spot in the 200 free, finishing at 1:48.61. Sophomore Jim McLauglin (Plantsville, Conn.) also saw victory, winning the 500 free event with his time of 5:02.11. In other events, junior Will Miller (Farmingdale, N.J.) timed out at 56.88 to place first in the 100 backstroke and sophomore Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y.) took the top spot in the 100 butterfly with a 53.88 finish.

    The Hoyas also recorded several second-place finishes. In the 400-yard Medley Relay, the team of Miller, senior Richard Dennis (Waterville, Maine), Evangelista, and Lengle raced to a close second-place finish with a 3:40.38 mark. In individual competition, Lengle's time of 21.93 placed second in the 50 freestyle, while Miller also raced to a second-place finish with his time of 1:49.75. Other Hoyas notching second-place finishes were freshman Edmund Caulfield (Caldwell, N.J.) in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle, Evangelista in the 200-yard IM, Dennis in the 100-breaststroke, and sophomore Ryan Mrazik (Drexel Hill, Pa.) in the 100-backstroke.
