Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats Drexel in Final Home Meet

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Georgetown swimming and diving program posted mixed results in a dual meet against Drexel hosted by the Hoyas Saturday at McCarthy Pool. The women’s team claimed a 142-93 victory, while the men fell 150-84.

Freshmen McKay Elliott  (Gaithersburg, Md./Georgetown Visitation) and Laura Sytnyk  (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) and junior Kevin Walsh (Bethesda, Md./Saint Anselms) all picked up multiple wins on the day. Elliott took first in the 50 yd freestyle and 100 yd freestyle, Sytnyk won the 400yd IM and 100yd butterfly, and Walsh claimed the gold in the 400yd IM and 100yd fly.

Other individual winning efforts for the Hoyas came from sophomore Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep) in the 200yd freestyle, freshman Liz Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) in the 200yd backstroke, and sophomore Corinne Rhodes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks) in the 100yd breaststroke. Junior Michael Bayer (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) added a victory in the 50 yd freestyle on the men’s side, while the Hoyas were also boosted by wins in the women’s 200yd medley relay and the men’s 200yd freestyle relay.

Next up for the Hoyas are the BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 19-21 in Long Island, N.Y.
