Eleven members of the Georgetown University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams participated in the BIG EAST Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center on February 21-23.
In men’s action, Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va./Washington & Lee) swam the 50 Free in 21.07, coming in 16th place and setting a new Georgetown school record. On Sunday, Lengle broke his own 50 Free record, swimming the event in 21.03. In the 100 Free, Lengle finished in 45.86, good for a 12th place finish, and shattered a 13-year record set by Frank Peloso. Lengle, Will Miller (Farmingdale, N.J./Freehold), Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's), and Matt O’Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Phoenix Country Day), set a new school record in the 400m Relay, taking eleventh place in 3:30.91. Miller and Evangelista also set new school records in individual events, with Miller swimming the 100 Back in 53.72 and Evangelista breaking his own record in the 100 Fly. Diver Michael Kizer (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) placed 17th in the 3-meter diving competition, earning a score of 300.75.
In women’s action, Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) broke her own record in the 100 Fly, swimming the event in 57.66. Michelle Herd (Canton Center, Conn./Westminster) also broke her own school records, swimming the 100 Back in 58.78 and the 200 Back in 2:08.93. Divers Juliana Bonilla (West Covina, Calif./Covina) and Kathryn Harrison (Chatham, N.J./Hotchkiss, N.J.) also performed well, taking 16th and 17th place in the 1-meter Diving competition.
The Hoyas will also be sending a number of swimmers to the ECAC Championships in Pittsburgh to be held later this week. Amanda Anderson (Denville, N.J./Morristown Beard), Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame) and Erin Kehoe (Haddon Heights, N.J./Camden Central) will compete for the women and Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International), Edmund Caulfield (Caldwell, N.J./St. Peter's Prep), Steven Ferguson (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum), Brendan Griffin (Andover, Mass./St. John's Prep), Jim McLaughlin (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) and Brad Perez (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit) will compete for the men.
