Georgetown Men's Tennis Dealt a Loss To George Mason

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 24) - Georgetown's men's tennis team has now lost four straight matches after falling to area rival George Mason 5-2 on March 24 at the McDonough Tennis Courts. The loss puts the Hoyas at 3-12 overall on the season.

GU's only singles point came from Nick Sklavounos (So., Waterford, Conn./Waterford) who won his second dual match of the season with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over the Patriots' Jonas Furucrona at No. 1 singles. The Hoyas also took the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. The tandem of Sklavounos and Andre Benjamin (So., New York, N.Y./Fieldston) bested Juan Luzardo and Kareem Sullivan 8-4 at No. 2, while Ken Jordan (So., Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) and Dave Boyer (Sr., Winston-Salem, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) held the team of Chris Rivera and Jamie Gilbland at bay with a 8-2 win at No. 3.

Freshmen Marc Lohser (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and Troy Crichlow (Fr., Wilton, Mass./Milton), who have settled into the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots midway through the season, each fell in their respective matches. Alex Vettraino downed Lohser 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 while Crichlow fell 6-3, 6-2. Senior captain Beau Brewer (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) lost to Rivera 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Sullivan defeated Benjamin 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5. Sophomore Ken Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) took his match to a third set tie-break, but came up short in the 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(5) loss to GM's Andy Tran.

The Hoyas move on to March 25 with a dual match against Hampton at 11:00 a.m. GU will aslo take on Duquesne at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.
