RICHMOND, Va. (April 7) - Georgetown's men's tennis team continues to slump with its 5-1 loss to Richmond on Friday, April 7 at the Richmond Tennis Complex. The Hoyas' overall record falls to 3-18 while the Spiders improve to 5-15.
Richmond took command of four of five singles matches to clinch the victory. Rob Flader defeated Nick Sklavounos (So., Waterford, Conn./Waterford) 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Freshman Marc Lohser (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) fell to Matt Davis 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. The Hoyas' Beau Brewer (Sr., Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) and Andre Benjamin (So., New York, N.Y./Fieldston) were handed defeats at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Travis Wagner won 6-4, 6-2 over Brewer and Dan Scrafford bested Benjamin by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Ken Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) won GU's only point of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win over John Oxley at No. 6. Todd Parker and Hoya Troy Crichlow (Fr., Wilton, Mass./Milton) did not finish at No. 3 singles. The Spiders won the doubles point by capturing victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The GU tandem of Lohser and Brewer fell to Richmond's No. 1 team of Aljosa Piric and Davis by a 9-8 margin. Flader and Parker bested the Hoya No. 2 team of Sklavounos and Benjamin, 8-2. The No. 3 duo of Jordan and Dave Boyer (Sr., Winston-Salem, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) won for the fourth time in five matches with an 8-6 win over Wagner and Scrafford. GU's men's tennis team hosts Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, April 11, on the McDonough Tennis Courts beginning at 3:30 p.m.
