MIAMI, FLA. (April 23) - Tenth-seeded Georgetown dropped a 4-0 decision to sixth-seeded Connecticut on April 23, the final day of the 2000 BIG EAST Tennis Championships at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park. With the loss, GU places eighth at this year's Championships and their record falls to 6-23.
The Huskies captured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Broderick and Luke Grimshaw combined to defeat Hoyas' Nick Sklavounos (So., Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and Andre Benjamin (So., New York, N.Y./Fieldston) 8-4 at the No. 2 position. Dave Boyer (Sr., Winston-Salem, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) and Ken Jordan (So., Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) fell to Bryan Adinolfi and Joe Lang by a 8-4 score at No. 3 doubles. Leading 1-0, UConn won three singles matches for the final 4-0 win. Grimshaw bested Marc Lohser (Fr., Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-3. UConn's Po Phimvongsa handed Crichlow a 6-3, 6-1 loss at No. 3. After losing the first set 6-3, Jordan battled Adinolfi to a second set tiebreak, but could not prevail in the set that ended 7-6(2). Senior Beau Brewer's (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) match at No. 4 did not finish. Georgetown's final match will be at Princeton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29.
