Photo Gallery Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University indoor track & field team finishes the final day of competition at the BIG EAST Conference Championship held at the New Balance track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City with the women finishing second of 16 teams with 92 points behind Connecticut (103.50). The men placed third of 12 teams with 107 points behind Connecticut (167) and Notre Dame (139). Conference honors on the men's side went to Connecticut (Staff of the Year), Villanova's Bobby Curtis (Track Performer of the Year) and Connecticut's Ellis Gaulden (Field Performer of the Year). For the women, honors went to Connecticut (Staff of the Year), Pittsburgh's Shantea Calhoun and West Virginia's Marie Louise Asselin (Track Performers of the Year) and Syracuse's Jillian Drouin (Field Performer of the Year). Senior Joanna Rodgers (Fairfax, Va./J.W. Robinson/NC State) won the mile event with a time of 4:50.19 and was the first of four Hoyas to cross the finish line with graduate student Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./The Academy of Holy Names) timing in at 4:51.02 for third place and sophomore Lauren Gregory (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) right behind her in fourth place with a time of 4:54.84. The final runner to cross the finish line donning the blue and gray was sophomore Marcie Sobrinski (Treichlers, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) who took eighth place with a time of 4:59.69. The women's 4x800 relay squad made up of junior Avril Ogrodnick (Beaconsfield, Quebec/Beaconsfield), sophomore Renee Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City), junior Maggie Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) and Rodgers won the event in timely fashion (8:51.32), more than six seconds faster than the second-place squad from Villanova. The women 800m saw senior Ashley Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) take third place with Tomlin behind her in fifth place with times of 2:11.06 and 2:12.01, respectively. Hubbard also put in a fifth-place time of 1:13.05 in the 500m. In the 1000m, Infeld timed in at fourth place (2:50.70) while Avril Ogrodnick put in a fifth-place performance (2:53.19). Senior Melissa Grelli (Cupertino, Calif./Presentation) placed third in the 3000m with a time of 9:28.03 with junior Lise Ogrodnick (Beaconsfield, Quebec/Beaconsfield) finishing fifth (9:33.40), both were provisional NCAA qualifying times. In the 400m, sophomore Abigail Johnson (Willingboro, N.J./Milton Hershey [Pa.]) timed in at eighth place with a time of 57.34 while classmate Sarah Wernik (Florence, Mass./Northhampton) placed ninth in the 200m (24.97). The women's 4x400m relay squad finished seventh with an ECAC cut time of 3:47.40. On the men's side, junior Kenny Mitchell (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) won the 60m with a time of 6.73, an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Freshman Spenser Carter (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) finished close behind with a time of 6.82, good enough for third place. Mitchell added a third-place performance in the 200m when he timed in at 21.59. In the men's mile, junior Andrew Bumbalough (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) placed second timing in at 4:01.61 while classmate Michael Banks (Holden, Mass./Watchussett Academy) finished fifth (4:08.32), senior Rasheed Thompson (Herndon, Va./Herndon) placed seventh (4:09.51) and senior Brandon Bonsey (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) placed 10th. Bumbalough turned in an additional second-place performance when he ran the 3000m in 8:04.81, an NCAA provisional qualifying time and he was again the first of four Hoya performers in the event. Senior Justin Scheid (Sparta, N.J./Pop John XXII) finished eighth (8:15.46), sophomore Sandy Roberts (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) finished ninth (8:18.41) and freshman Ayalew Taye (Portland, Maine/Cushing Academy) finished 13th. The 1000m was stacked with runners donning the blue and gray as senior Matt Debole (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) led the way with a second-place time of 2:23.84. Classmate Neil Grosscup (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) finished fourth (2:25.36) while junior Alex Mason (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy Prep) finished seventh (2:26.38) and sophomore Alex Bean (Somers, N.Y./Somers) placed eighth (2:26.91). In his first indoor BIG EAST Championship, freshman Chris Kinney (Stockbridge, Ga./Stockbridge) timed in at 7.97 for third place in the 60m HH while classmate Toby Ulm (Marlborough, U.K./St. John's School and Community College) was the lone Hoya in the 400m as he finished sixth with a time of 48.35. Sophomore Danny Harris (Deer Park, N.Y./St John the Baptist) finished seventh in the 800m with a time of 1:55.88 while classmate Kelvin Hill (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) followed up in ninth (1:56.96). In the relays, the 4x800 quartet made up of Grosscup, sophomore (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker), Bean and Debole finished second in the event, just one tenth of a second behind the record-setting squad from Villanova. The Hoyas will take a weekend off before competing in the ECAC/IC4A Championships on March 8-9.
