Cross Country Moves Up National Rankings

Oct. 9, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University cross country team moved up in the national rankings without competing last week. Neither the men nor the women competed in the Notre Dame Invitational last weekend because of an outbreak of the norovirus on the Georgetown campus. The team will not compete this weekend, but will return to action Oct. 17, at the Penn State National Invitational.

In the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association national rankings, the Georgetown men moved up one spot to the eighth spot and maintained its regional ranking of No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

In the Hoyas first meet, Levi Miller (Belfast, Maine/Belfast Area) broke a course record at the New Market Battlefield in Harrisonburg, Va. at the JMU Invitational--the course record was set in 2006 by former Hoya All-American and cross country standout Matt Debole. Miller was the first of six Hoya student-athletes to cross the finish line.

The women moved up four spots to 18th in the USTFCCCA, and remained in third place in the Mid-Atlantic division.

In the women's only meet, Natasha LaBeud (Folsom, Calif./Folsom) was the first Hoya to cross the finish line, placing fourth overall in the Old Nassau Run held on Princeton's campus.
