Men's Cross Country Takes First Place at IC4A Championship

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's cross country team, ranked 14th nationally by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, won its third-consecutive and 11th overall IC4A Championship on Saturday held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. with senior Daniel Nunn (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) finishing first in the five-mile run with a time of 25:13. The 18th-ranked women's cross country team placed fourth in the 12-team field at the ECAC Championship, also held at Van Cortlandt Park.

The men's team took first place with 38 points followed by Duke (73), No. 21 William & Mary (121), Princeton (137), Massachusetts (160), Yale (178), Duquesne (193), Marist (216), Columbia (241), La Salle (255), Iona (285), Saint Joseph's (Pa.) (295), George Mason (302), Rider (358) and Delaware (389).

Nunn's first-place finish was the eighth individual championship in program history and the third in the last four years for a Georgetown student-athlete. Nunn was followed by junior Alex Mason (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy Prep) with a time of 25.21. The Blue and Gray placed four student-athletes in the top 10 with senior Rasheed Thompson (Herndon, Va./Herndon) and sophomore Alex Bean (Somers, N.Y./Somers) finishing seventh and ninth, respectively. Sophomore Owen Boyle (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) rounded out the top scorers as he placed 20th while classmate Dan Gerber (Wilde Lake, Md./Wilde Lake) finished four behind with a time of 25:47and freshman T.C. Lumbar (Edina, Minn./Edina) finished 43rd.

For the women, Villanova won the championship with 43 points, followed by William & Mary (58), Cornell (83), No. 18 Georgetown (124), Yale (154), James Madison (163), Columbia (213), Massachusetts (217), Delaware (229), Saint Joseph's (Pa.) (252), La Salle (260) and No. 25 Duke (262).

 

 

Villanova placed three student-athletes in the top five and Wildcat Callie Hogan won the individual championship in the 5k run with a time of 17:48. Two Hoyas were in the top-10 finishers with junior Avril Ogrodnick (Beaconsfield, Quebec/Beaconsfield) finishing ninth with a time of 18:15. Sophomore Kelsey Malmquist (Williston Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) was right behind her finishing 10th with a time of 18:19. Junior Natasha LaBeaud (Folsom, Calif./Folsom) finished 19th while sophomore Amanda Walsh (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and junior Kailin Collins (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) rounded out the top-scorers placing 49th and 55th, respectively.
