Washington, D.C. - The 14th-ranked (USTFCCCA) Georgetown men's cross country team finished 13th overall in the 30-team field today at the NCAA Championships hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind. The women's team, ranked 18th by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association finished 28th overall of 31 schools.

The men's overall race was won by Oregon with 85 points followed by Iona (113), Oklahoma State (1800), Northern Arizona (180), Wisconsin (239), Alabama (280), Colorado (287), Minnesota (322), Louisville (324), UTEp (331), Cal-Poly (367), Virginia (374), Georgetown (398), Portland (424) with William & Mary rounding out the top 15 with 432 points.

Junior Andrew Bumbalough (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) was the top finisher for the Blue and Gray with a time of 30:20, good enough for 16th in the 10,000 meter race. Senior Matt Debole (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) placed 44th with a time of 30:44 followed closely by junior Mike Krisch (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) in 57th place and senior Justin Scheid (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXII) placing 69th with times of 30:56 and 31:03, respectively. Freshman Ayalew Taye (Portland, Maine/Cushing Academy) rounded out the Hoyas' top five with a time of 37:39.

On the women's side, Stanford won the team race with 145 points followed by Oregon (177), Florida State (236), Arizona State (251), Michigan State (321), Illinois (331), Northern Arizona (357), Washington (358), West Virginia (375), Iowa (387), Florida (391), Minnesota (393), Arkansas (406), Princeton (409) and Colorado State (410) to round out the top 15. Georgetown finished in 28th with a score of 520, just two sports behind BIG EAST opponent Providence, who placed 26th with a score of 491.

Senior Melissa Grellis (Cupertino, Calif./Presentation) was the top Hoya finisher with at ime of 20:20, good enough for ninth place. Graduate student Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./The Academy of Holy Names) was the second to don the Blue and Gray to cross the finish line with a time of 21:25. Senior Joanna Rodgers (Fairfax, Va./J.W. Robinson/North Carolina State), Maggie Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) and junior Lise Ogrodnick (Beaconsfield, Quebec/Beaconsfield) were not even separated by a minute as Rodgers took 135th place with a time of 22:07 and Infeld and Ogrodnick finished with times of 22:18 and 22:30, respectively.

The final two competitors for the Hoyas were sophomore Renee Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) who finished the race just a second behind Ogrodnick at 22:31. Sophomore Lauren Gregory (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) crossed the finish line with a time of 23:25.
