Washington, D.C. - Freshman Katrina Wheeler (Washington, D.C/T. Roosevelt) tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 17 rebounds and led four GU players in double figures to lead the Georgetown University women's basketball team to a 64-52 BIG EAST Conference victory over visiting Seton Hall today at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas snapped a six-game slide and improve to 9-12 overall, 2-8 in the league while Seton Hall falls to 6-15, 3-7 in the BIG EAST. Sophomore Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) scored 15 points and hauled in nine rebounds while sophomore Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) matched a season-high with 17 points to go along with five assists and three steals. Senior Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) notched ten points. Georgetown freshman Nikki Bozeman (District Heights, Md./Bishop McNamara) scored a career-high nine points and equaled a career-high with five assists. The Hoyas made 42 percent of their shots from the floor and held Seton Hall to 29 percent shooting for the game. Georgetown led 21-17 with 9:46 left to go in the first half before the Hoyas went on a 15-6 run to close the opening period. GU held a 36-23 halftime advantage, marking the second time this season Georgetown has taken a lead into halftime and held on for the win in BIG EAST play (Providence). LeSueur and Heidloff combined for nine points during the spurt. The Pirates closed to 43-36 with 12:38 remaining in the game but Georgetown scored 12 of the game's next 15 points over a span of 7:30, including seven from Heidloff to take control of the game for good.
Georgetown will be back in action on Wednesday, February 8 when the Hoyas travel to Syracuse for a 7 p.m. BIG EAST tipoff at the Carrier Dome. Games Notes: --- Georgetown outrebounded their opponent for the third time in the last five games. --- The Hoyas hit 14-20 free throws vs Seton Hall. GU has now made more than ten shots from the charity stripe in 11 of the last 12 games. ---Wheeler has recorded a double-double in four of the last seven games. |
