Georgetown Women's Basketball Team Tripped Up, 71-67 at Seton Hall Tuesday Night

Feb. 6, 2007

Box Score

S. Orange, N.J. - Freshman Shanice Fuller (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) scored a career-high 21 points but the host Seton Hall Pirates made eight straight free throws in the final 1:49 as the Pirates edged the Georgetown University women's basketball team, 71-67 at Walsh Gymnasium on Tuesday night. The Hoyas fall to 12-12, 2-9 in BIG EAST Conference action.

The Hoyas had four players in double-figures for the third time this season. Aside from Fuller, Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill.Fenwick) posted 17 points while Katrina Wheeler and Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) had 12 points apiece.

Georgetown fell for the first time this season when leading at the half (7-1).

SHU (14-8, 6-5 BE) scored the first seven points of the second half and cut the Hoya lead to 37-36 with 17:15 to go before Nicole Emery hit a three-pointer from the wing with 17:38 left. GU senior Kate Carlin (Ambler, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph, Acad.) stopped GU's scoring drought with an elbow jumper at 16:20 to knot the score at 39-39.

Fuller matched her career-high of 12 points with a runner at the 14:45 mark and set a new career-high with a driving layin at 1225.

Heidloff hit a trey from the corner with 11:18 left as the Hoyas went ahead 47-44 but SHU took a 49-47 edge on Brittny Messina's trey from the top of the key.

Georgetown was over the limit as SHU shot free throws over the final 7:11.

Emery hit a three from the corner with 2:32 left and then Mukosiej followed with a three of her own at 1:49 for a 64-61 lead.

Wheeler's follow cut the Hoyas deficit to 67-65 with 17 ticks left but Mukosiej converted all four of her shots from the charity stripe down the stretch.

The Hoyas played arguably their most complete half of basketball in the opening period. GU shot 64 percent from the floor with Kristin Heidloff, Shanice Fuller and Kieraah Marlow all scoring 10 points apiece.

The Hoyas made their first seven field goal attempts but SHU was just as good shooting the basketball as the Pirates held a 19-15 edge with 11:57 to go in the first period.

Heidloff's second trey of the night gave the Hoyas a 22-19 lead with 9:49 left as Seton Hall went more than six minutes without a field goal. Georgetown wouldn't relinquish the lead for the remainder of the half taking their biggest advantage, 37-29 into intermission as Marlow and Katrina Wheeler both converted buckets in the paint in the final 20 seconds.

Heta Korpivaara scored all 12 of her points in the first seven minutes of the half while Ela Mukosiej netted six of her ten points inside of the six minute mark. The Pirates' leading scorer Monique Blake played just ten minutes after picking up her second personal foul.

The Hoyas return to Washington, D.C. and host No. 18 Marquette on Saturday, February 10 in a BIG EAST tilt that tips at noon inside McDonough Arena. The game will be televised as part of the BIG EAST's Regional Television "Game of the Week" Package and will be aired on Sportsnet New York (SNY).
