Box Score

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown dropped their season finale tonight at McDonough Arena, 68-58 to Pittsburgh. Hoya junior forward Kierrah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) finished with a game-high 22 points and five rebounds, but Marlow finished the season having scored double-figures in 12 of the last 14 games.

With the loss, the Hoyas (13-15, 3-12 BE) fail to qualify for the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Championship while the Panthers (21-7, 9-6 BE) will play Saturday, March 3 in the BIG EAST Championship First Round.

Before the game the team honored its two seniors, guard Kate Carlin (Ambler, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) and Amber Dorsey (Hampton, Va.) who participated in their final home game.

Georgetown received a jumper from Carlin with 12:13 to play in the first half which cut the Pittsburgh lead at the time to 19-13. However, the Hoyas only got one field goal over the next 4:35 until Shanice Fuller (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) fed Kenya Kirkland (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) for a layup that made the score 21-17 in favor of the Panthers. During Georgetown's dry spell, they actually cut into the lead.

With 11:10 to go in the first half, Pittsburgh led 21-13. Then for the next 9:10, the Georgetown defense held Pittsburgh without a field goal. Despite Pitt's ability to make a bucket from the field, they were able to get to the line and play solid defense of their own which allowed them to maintain almost all of their lead. When the Panthers finally got a field goal, they still maintained a seven-point lead, 28-21 with 2:00 remaining in the half.

The Hoyas struggled in the first half shooting the basketball, making only 33.3 percent of their shots, while Pittsburgh connected on 46.2 percent. Georgetown was also unable to make any three-pointers in the first stanza, missing all six attempts. The Panthers also took advantage of GU turnovers, outscoring the Hoyas 10-0 on points off turnovers. Marlow picked up her third foul of the game with 2:56 to play in the first half and the Hoyas trailing 24-21. At that point, the forward had scored 11 of the team's 21 points. With Marlow out of the lineup, the Hoyas wouldn't score another field goal for the rest of the half and trailed at the break, 32-22.

Sophomore Katrina Wheeler (Washington D.C./Theodore Roosevelt) finished with her fourth double-double of the season and first in BIG EAST play, scoring 18 points and adding 10 rebounds.

Four Pittsburgh players scored in double figures as junior Marcedes Walker led the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds, her fourth straight game with a double-double. Senior Danielle Taylor added 15 points while sophomore Xenia Stewart finished with 10 points, six assists and five steals.

Pittsburgh crept out to a 41-26 lead after intermission but Georgetown responded on buckets by Wheeler, sophomore Kristen Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) and Marlow to cut the lead to single-digits, 41-32, with 14:56 to play. This was the first time the Hoyas had gotten the Panther lead to under 10 points since the 1:30 mark of the first half.

Georgetown seemed to be out of it when they trailed the Panthers 61-50 with just 3:37 to play, but GU went on an 8-1 run to cut the lead to 62-58 with 56 seconds left. The turning point of the game came when Heidloff stole the ball away and had a clean path to the basket for a layup, but she left it short and Shavonte Zellous cleared it for the Panthers.

Pittsburgh got a fast break layup from Walker before the Panthers hit four of five free throws for the final tally.

The Hoyas trailed at halftime for the 19th time this season

Georgetown finished the regular season with a 5-9 record in McDonough Arena
