Shooting Woes Plague Hoyas in Loss at Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team managed just 20 percent shooting from the floor and dropped a 70-33 decision at Pittsburgh on Monday night in the regular season finale for both teams. The Hoyas conclude the regular season with a 15-14 overall record, 5-11 in BIG EAST play. Georgetown finished the regular season tied for 12th place but missed qualifying for the BIG EAST Tournament as South Florida and Villanova won the tiebreakers over the Hoyas.

Senior Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill.Fenwick) finished with nine points off the bench for the Hoyas. Senior Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) netted eight points, six rebounds and four steals.

Pittsburgh finished 45 percent from the floor (23-51), including 8-17 from behind the three-point line. Senior center Marcedes Walker recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds while junior guard Shavonte Zellous tallied 13 points in 31 minutes.

Pittsburgh took a 32-14 lead into the locker rooms. Georgetown struggled mightily from the floor, going just 4-32 from the floor in the opening period while Pittsburgh connected on 45 percent of its shots (45%).

Kristin Heidloff had six of the Hoyas' first nine points Kieraah Marlow posted all five of her first half points in the half's final five minutes.

Georgetown committed fewer first half turnovers and grabbed 12 offensive rebounds.

The Panthers hit seven of their first eight shots and held an 18-6 lead eight minutes in with eight of their 18 points coming from inside the paint.

Pitt then led 24-8 with eight minutes to go before the half as Georgetown was suffering through a 2-20 start shooting the basketball.
 

 

Georgetown's 11 field goals and 33 point were season lows.

Pittsburgh (20-9, 10-6 BE) has won four straight over the Hoyas.
