Washington, D.C. - Washington D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team won their second game in a row as senior guard Kate Carlin (Ambler, Pa./Mount St. Joseph Acad.) set a new Georgetown record by making nine three-pointers on her way to a career-high 29 points. The Hoyas, as a team shot over 50 percent for the second straight game en route to an 82-52 victory over the visiting Fordham Rams on Wednesday night at McDonough Arena. Carlin led three Georgetown scorers in double-figures as the Hoyas improved to 2-2 on the season while the Rams fall to 0-4. Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) finished with 20 points as she scored in double-figures for the 45th time in a Hoya uniform. Junior Aminata Diop (Saint Louis, Senegal/Ameth Fall) recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists. Sophomore Katrina Wheeler (Washington, D.C./T. Roosevelt) collected a game-high 11 rebounds and finished with eight points and three blocks while freshman Shanice Fuller (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) finished with a game-high seven assists to go with five rebounds. GU's depth wore down the Rams on both ends of the court, as the Rams only dressed seven players. The Hoyas shot 68 percent from the floor while holding Fordham to only seven field goals on 28 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes. The victory marks the second time under GU head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy that the Hoyas shot over 50 percent from the floor in consecutive games. Georgetown took a 44-25 into the locker room at halftime, by connecting in the paint, off turnovers, and especially from beyond the arc. The Hoyas hit eight three-pointers in the first half alone, as Carlin buried six of her first seven attempts. With 5:47 to play in the opening stanza, Carlin had 18 points while Fordham had 19 as a team. For the game, the Hoyas were 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from three-point land, and Carlin's nine threes give her 111 in her career, which ranks fifth all-time. In the first half, the game was tied at nine with 14:10 to play, but Georgetown went on a 32-10 over the next nine-plus minutes to take a 41-19 lead. The closest Fordham would get the rest of the game was 16 points at 56-40 with 12:35 to play, but the Hoyas closed the game out on a 26-12 run for the final margin of victory, 82-52. Beth Troutt led the Rams with 17 points and nine rebounds while Annie Zopf finished with 13 points and seven assists.
In the Hoyas two losses this season, they shot a combined 37 percent from the floor, while in the last two games, both Georgetown victories, the Hoyas have shot a combined 56 percent from the floor. The Hoyas begin a five-game road trip when they travel to take on East Tennessee State on Friday, November 24 at 7:00 p.m. in Johnson City, Tennessee. |
