Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team defeated the Fordham University Rams (3-4), 58-46, Wednesday evening at McDonough Arena. Freshman Adria Crawford (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) paced the Hoyas with her second career double-double tallying 12 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. With the win, Georgetown improves to 6-1 on the season. The Hoyas used a 13-0 run midway through the first to take a commanding 11-point lead. However, at the nine-minute mark, the Rams cut the deficit to just five after a small drought for the Hoyas. Crawford and classmate Tia McBride (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) contributed late layups to keep the Hoyas on top at the break with a 26-21 advantage. Junior Shanice Fuller (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) led GU in the first half with nine points, while Crawford had eight as well as a team-best six rebounds, including four on the offensive end. The Hoyas outrebounded the Rams 23-16 and outshot them 34.5 percent to 28.6. Georgetown forced nine Fordham turnovers and had four steals. The second half started much like the first when the Hoyas jumped out on a quick 7-0 run to go ahead by 13 points. Rotating players in, Georgetown managed to keep the double-digit lead until the eight minute mark. Fouls hurt the Hoyas as four straight shots from the charity stripe brought Fordham within six with five minutes to go. Georgetown finished off the game with an 8-2 run to hold on for the 58-46 victory. Crawford led the Hoyas with 12 points and ten rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Fuller finished with nine and freshman Rubylee Wright (Latta, S.C./Latta) added seven. Georgetown posted 40 rebounds to Fordham's 35 and shot 41.5 percent for the game. The Hoyas also forced 16 turnovers and notched six steals.
"We're taking it one game at a time, we got the win tonight but tomorrow we are going to get right back at it to prepare for James Madison on Friday," said Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. The Hoyas will have just a day's rest before hosting James Madison University on Friday evening at 8 p.m. Gametracker and a live webcast of the game will be available at www.GUHoyas.com. |
