Hoyas, USF Battle in Key BIG EAST Contest on Saturday Afternoon

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (13-12, 3-9 BE) looks to snap a three-game slide on Saturday afternoon, February 23 when the Hoyas host USF (13-12, 3-9 BE) in a pivotal contest with BIG EAST Tournament implications. The game can be seen live on the internet with Chuck Timanus and Dana Simonelli calling the action at www.guhoyas.com.

The Hoyas and the Bulls are currently tied for the 12th and final playoff spot with four league games remaining.

Georgetown still has to play games at Syracuse (GU defeated SU, 78-71 on Feb. 2), vs. Providence (Senior Day) and at Pittsburgh in the regular season's final nine days. After Georgetown victories earlier this season, GU holds the tiebreaker advantage St. John's and Seton Hall.

GU's three league wins has already matched its BIG EAST win total after the Hoyas won three league games in each of the last two years.

Hoyas in the Series vs. USF ... USF leads the all-time series, 3-0. The Bulls have been victorious in the two meetings between the schools since USF joined the BIG EAST Conference. In the last two years, USF has won by an average of 21 points per game.

Georgetown senior forward Kieraah Marlow is averaging 22.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two games vs. the Bulls.

Fast Breaks ... USF's Porche Grant, an Oxon Hills, Md. native, played AAU ball from the age of 11 to 16 for the Maryland Mystics. The Mystics team was coached by current Georgetown assistant Keith Brown.

-- Georgetown ranks fifth in the BIG EAST allowing 60.6 points per game. The Hoyas have held eight opponents to under 53 points. In BIG EAST play however, Georgetown is allowing 69.0 points per game, ranking 11th in the league. USF is averaging 62.1 points in league play.

 

 

-- In their BIG EAST home games (3-3), the Hoyas are shooting 44 percent from the floor and 37.6 percent from three-point distance for a total of 67.8 points per game. In their BIG EAST road games (0-6), GU is shooting 32 percent from the floor and 25 percent from long range for a total of 48.2 points per game.

-- Junior college transfer Karee Houlette is averaging 7.8 points on 7-17 three-point shooting (41%) and has six assists vs. one turnover in the last four games. Houlette posted career bests with 12 points in 30 minutes Wednesday vs. DePaul.

-- Senior center Aminata Diop has tallied in double figures in five straight games, the longest such stretch in her one-plus seasons on the Hilltop. Diop is averaging 10.6 points on 61 percent shooting (22-36) with 3.2 rebounds and 75 percent shooting from the free throw line (9-12) during the stretch. In her 21 starts, averaging 8.0 points on 52 percent shooting (71-136) and 3.5 rebounds in over 23 minutes per game

Heidloff Back at It ... Junior guard Kristin Heidloff ranks fifth on the school's all-time list with a career three-point field goal percentage of .354 (141-398). Her 141 career three-pointers ranks fifth all-time in Georgetown annals.

Heidloff matched a season-high with 14 points to go along with five assists vs. 0 turnovers vs. Notre Dame.

The Chicago native handed out six assists vs. 0 turnovers vs. St. John's in 21 minutes off the bench.

Heidloff came off the bench and played 30 minutes, scoring 11 points, including three treys to go along with three assists on Wednesday vs. DePaul.

Scouting USF ... USF (13-12, 3-9 BE) is looking to win consecutive games for the first time since December and for the first time in league play.

USF has earned BIG EAST wins at Seton Hall (75-67), vs. No. 25 DePaul (78-73) and last time out vs. Villanova (77-66).

The Bulls are led by Shantia Grace's 18.6 points per game. Jazmine Sepulveda and Jessica Lawson are averaging 10 points apiece.
