Feb. 26, 2007 Washington, D.C. ─ The Georgetown University women's basketball team (13-15, 3-12 BE) will need a victory in their regular season finale on Monday, February 26 vs. Pittsburgh (21-7, 9-6 BE) and some help in order to qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament which starts this coming Saturday. Monday's game will be the final home game for GU seniors Amber Dorsey and Kate Carlin. The duo will be recognized prior to tonight's tip-off inside McDonough Arena. Chuck Timanus will be calling the action for HoyaVision which can be seen at www.guhoyas.com. GU is in the final game of a three-games-in-eight-day stretch with the most riding on tonight's game. Four teams are dueling for the final BIG EAST Tournament spot. The Hoyas are currently 3-12 in league play and tied with Providence and Syracuse. St. John's (4-11 in BE play) is one game better than PC, SU and GU. The Hoyas hold head-to-head tiebreakers over St. John's and Providence but not Syracuse. Fast Breaks ... Senior Kate Carlin (Ambler, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Acad.) is just four points shy of the 800-mark plateau. Carlin has come off the bench in the last two games and averaged 16.5 points, making 12-24 field goals, including 9-18 three-pointers. She currently ranks third on the school's all-time list making better than 37 percent of her shots from long range. -- Juniors Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) and Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) have pretty good numbers in two previous games vs. Pittsburgh. Heidloff is averaging 15.0 points and 3.3 assists while Marlow is averaging a double-double with 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds vs. the Panthers. -- The Georgetown bench outscored Providence's bench, 40-10, marking the third time third time this season the Hoya bench players have scored 40 or more points (Fordham, Sav. St., Providence - 3-0). -- When junior center Aminata Diop (Saint-Louis, Senegal/Southeastern illinois J.C.) leads the team in rebounds, the Hoyas are 6-1. -- The Hoyas are 3-0 when they score 70-plus points. -- Heidloff ranks eighth in the BIG EAST with 2.0 steals per game. -- The Hoyas rank sixh in the BIG EAST, averaging 9.2 steals per game. -- GU ripped down 50 rebs vs. Syracuse. It was the most Hoya rebounds since the Hoyas collected 52 rebounds in a win vs. Providence on January 29, 2005. -- Marlow has 443 points this season, more than double of anyone else on the GU roster. Marlow has scored in double-figures in 11 of the last 13 games. Marlow's has hauled in 621 career rebounds and is just the eighth GU player to surpass the 1,100-point and 600-rebound marks. Marlow is averaging 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in two previous meetings with Pittsburgh. -- The Hoyas had won their first seven games when leading at the half and is 8-2 overall when leading at intermission. Georgetown lost two straight games when holding the halftime edge (SHU & Syracuse) but GU led Providence 39-29 at the break and took home a victory. -- Sophomore forward Katrina Wheeler (Washington, D.C./T. Roosevelt) pulled down double-figure boards ten times this season and 17 times in her career. -- In the Hoyas' three BIG EAST wins, GU's opponents are shooting just 33 percent from the floor and averaging just 49 points. In Georgetown's league losses, their opponents are shooting 48 percent from the field and averaging 70 points. -- GU has hit 44 three-pointers in its last eight games, its best eight-game, long-range shooting stretch against BIG EAST foes. Heidloff (12) and Meredith Cox (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) (16) and Carlin (13) have combined for 41 treys in the span. -- The Hoyas have posted a 4-1 record in games decided by three points or less. Scouting Pittsburgh ... Pitt's 21 wins is the most in the regular season in school history. Junior center Marcedes Walker has five double-doubles in the last six games. Walker (15.6 ppg), sophomore guard Shavonte Zellous (19.6 ppg) and sophomore guard Xenia Stewart (11.4 ppg) are all averaging double-figures. Walker and senior guard Mallorie Winn were Preseason All-BIG EAST selections. The Series ... Pittsburgh leads the all-time series, 24-19. The visiting team has won four of the last five games.
