Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (15-13, 5-10 BE) closes out the regular season at Pittsburgh (19-9, 9-6), who is receiving votes in the latest Associated Press poll, on Monday night, March 3 inside the Panthers' Petersen Events Center. Fast Breaks ... Georgetown is 13-2 when they hold the lead with five minutes to go. GU led 48-45 with five minutes to go at Marquette but couldn't hold on. Last time out at Syracuse, the Hoyas squandered a nine-point lead with 5:15 remaining. -- In their BIG EAST home games (5-3), the Hoyas are shooting 43.6 percent from the floor and 37 percent from three-point distance for a total of 67.5 points per game. In their BIG EAST road games (0-7), GU is shooting 33 percent from the floor and 26 percent from long range for a total of 49.0 points per game. -- Junior college transfer Karee Houlette is averaging 7.0 points on 11-24 three-point shooting (45%) and has seven assists vs. one turnover and five steals in the last seven games. Houlette has tallied a career-high 12 points in two of the last four games. Senior center Aminata Diop has tallied in double figures in seven of the last eight games, the longest such stretch in her two seasons on the Hilltop. Diop is averaging 10.9 points on 56 percent shooting (36-64) with 3.6 rebounds while shooting 15-22 from the free throw line during the stretch. -- With six treys in the last four games, senior co-captain Kristin Heidloff now ranks fifth on the school's all-time list with 144 career three-pointers. Heidloff had 14 points five assists vs. No. 17 Notre Dame and became one of just eight Hoyas in school history to surpass the 300-assist mark (327).
Hoyas in the Series vs. Pittsburgh ... Pittsburgh leads the all-time series 25-19 and the Panthers have won three straight games.
Georgetown seniors Kristin Heidloff and Kieraah Marlow have played well in the contests with Pittsburgh. Heidloff is averaging 13.3 points and 4.3 assists while Marlow is averaging 18.6 points and 8.6 rebounds. Scouting Pittsburgh ... Pittsburgh (19-9, 9-6 BE) won its first seven conference games but has gone just 1-4 in its last five games. Junior guard Shavonte Zellous leads the team and ranks third in the BIG EAST averaging 19.1 points per game. Senior, Philadelphia native Marcedes Walker ranks second on the team with 13.6 points per game and averages 9.7 rebounds per game which ranks third on the circuit. Both Zellous and Walker were named All-BIG EAST First Team last season. |
