BIG EAST Announces Conference Opponents for Women's Basketball

May 23, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - Georgetown's women's basketball program learned its in-conference opponents today when the BIG EAST Conference announced the home/away league opponents for the upcoming 2005-06 women's basketball season. Starting on July 1, the BIG EAST Conference will expand to a 16-team league with the addition of Cincinnati, DePaul, Louisville, Marquette and South Florida.

The new league format will be a 16-game schedule with eight home and eight away contests. Every team will face each other once and each team will face one opponent in a home and home series. For the Hoyas that home and home series will be with newcomer Cincinnati. Home games for Georgetown will be against DePaul, Notre Dame, Providence, Rutgers, St. John's, Seton Hall and South Florida. GU will travel to face Connecticut, Louisville, Marquette, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia.

Last season in head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy's first season the Hoyas completed the year with a 7-9 conference mark, good for sixth place. Georgetown returns four starters from last season's team and seven total letterwinners.
