Women's Varsity 8 Places Second at GWU Crew Classic

Washington, DC-- The Georgetown University heavyweight crew team competed in the George Washington University Invitational Crew Classic on April 9. The women's varsity 8 second place finish was the highlight of the meet, where they narrowly defeated Villanova by one tenth of a second, rowing 2,000 meters in 6:27.70.

In addition to the second place finish of the varsity 8, three of the women's squads had third place finishes. In the women's 2nd freshman 8, the team finished third in 7:00.40. The women's freshman 8 finished third in a time of 7:13.90, and the women's 2nd varsity 8 finsihed third, just two seconds behind GW in 6:56.00.

The men's team also competed, rowing to third in the men's varsity eight in 5:40.10. The men's 2nd freshman 8 finished fourth in 6:14.80, and the men's 2nd varsity 8 (petite) rowed to seventh in 6:09.60.

In addition to the GWU Invitational competition, the women's lightweight crew competed in the 2005 Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic held on April 9 and 10, where they defeated Cal in 7:04.8.
