Washington, D.C. - Georgetown Rowing started their fall season with a resounding performance at the 28th annual Charlie Butt Scullers' Head of the Potomac. The women swept the Open Eight and Club Eight races to ensure a strong start to their campaign. In the Open Eight, Georgetown took three of the top four spots with the crew of Kate Imel, Jackie Fogarty, Claire Mongeau, Taylor Dana, Alisa Pierrepont, Samantha Miller, Mimi Inuzuka, Suzanne Elliot and Liz Kucharczyk winning the event with a time of 16:27.8. Another Georgetown boat, consisting of Hannah Kittel, Jenn Young, Amy Tenet, Helen Burdett, Erin Carter, Melissa Horne, Liz Stanowski, Jana Piazza and Amy Parks, finished second with a time of 16:29.2. The Hoyas also had a fourth-place boat cross the finish line in 16:50.7, one-tenth of a second behind the representatives from Lehigh. "This was a good opening competition," Head Coach Glen Putyrae said. "There was some nice intrasquad competition for boats and seats and everyone rowed really well today." During the Club Eight, Georgetown was able to win the event with a time of 16:18.1. Claudia Daisley, Margi Emhoff, Jade-Isis Lefebvre, Jacqueline Pasulka, Victoria Koke, Alex Vezina, Katharine Thompson, Laura Donaldson and Juliana Pugliese were able to defeat the rest of the competition easily, with the second-place boat finishing 30 seconds behind.
The Georgetown Boat Club crew that finished second in the event, consisted of early to mid-90's Hoya alumni, including Olympian Cathy Symon and Missy Ryan. They were 20 second better than the third-place boat from Lehigh. "With all the events going on this weekend, to race as well as we did, made this an amazing weekend for Georgetown Rowing," Putyrae added. |
