Washington, D.C. - This past Saturday, October 13, Georgetown University Women's Rowing took part in the 22nd Philadelphia Navy Day Regatta. The 2.4-mile head race on the Schuylkill River began at 11 a.m. against the backdrop of Boathouse Row. The Hoyas were victorious in two events on the day, the Women's Lightweight College Four and the Women's Lightweight College Eight. In the Lightweight Four, the Georgetown "A" boat consisting of Juliana Pugliese (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), Katharine Thompson (Princeton, N.J./Stuart Country Day School), Alex Vezina (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon), Morgan McGovern (San Francisco, Calif./Covent of the Sacred Heart) and Maria Lipperini (Collingswood, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) finished with a time of 17:20.40, almost one minute ahead of second-place Lehigh. The Blue and Gray also had their "B" crew finish third in the same race, edging out the "A" and "B" boats from Lafayette. The Women's Lightweight College Eight won their afternoon race with a time of 16:15.80. They were triumphant in a tight race, defeating Lehigh's "A" boat by less than seven seconds. The winning Hoya crew was made up of Pugliese, Karin Bothwell (Boston, Mass./The Winsor School), Samantha Miller (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep), Laura Donaldson (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley), Catherine Maloney (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe), Madeline Sarason (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle), Kristin Jasiukiewicz (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Mount St. Joseph Academy), Claudia Daisley (Falls Church, Va./George Mason H.S.) and Yevdokiya Yermolayeva (Newton, Mass./Newton North).
Georgetown also produced string finishes In the Women's College Eight and Women's College Four. In the afternoon, the Women's College Eight boat finished second out of 11 crews with a time of 15:13.00. Earlier in the day, the Women's College Four crew completed the course in a time of 17:08.60, good for third place out of 18 boats. The Women's College JV Eight also competed and finished fifth out of 14 crews during their race. The ladies will take to the water again this Sunday, October 21 in Boston, Mass. when they compete in the Head of the Charles. |
