August 8, 2001 WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Georgetown University freshman crew coach Hilary Gehman has been selected to compete at the 2001 FISA World Rowing Championships as part of the U.S. women’s quadruple sculls team. The championships, which run from August 18-26, are being held in Lucerne, Switzerland. Gehman’s team competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 1999 World Rowing Championships, where they finished in fifth and fourth place respectively. Twenty-four events will be contested at this year’s world championships, with the U.S. racing in 23. Last year the U.S. won three medals at the Olympics and four at the non-Olympic world championships, where the non-Olympic events are held.
