Women’s Crew Team Competes at Occoquan Chase Regatta

October 16, 2001 The Georgetown University women's varsity crew team competed in the Openweight 8+ and the Openweight 4+ races as part of the Occoquan Chase Regatta held over the weekend at the Occoquan Reservoir in Sandy Run Regional Park.

The openweight "A" boat, which consisted of Rachel Pacheco (Gardner, Mass./Gardner), Becky O’Neill (San Rafael, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep), Allison Hough, Nikki Duncan, Justine Landegger (Ridgefield, Conn./Taft School), Tara Galvin (Rockland, Del./Tower Hill), and Louisa Seferis (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside School), won the event in a time of 17:25. The lightweight crew, racing in the openweight event, placed 4th in a time of 18:10. The openweight "B" crew placed 7th in a time of 18:27.

Two hours after racing in the Open eights, sixteen of the rowers doubled-up into the Openweight 4+ event to race the three-mile course a second time. The two teams of openweights placed second and fourth respectively with times of 19:39 and 20:06. The top openweight crew consisted of O’Neill, Rachel Ryckman (Green River, Wyo./Green River), Pacheco, Dolan, and Alyson Heller (Pully, Switzerland, St.George’s School). The two lightweight crews placed sixth and seventh in the same open division. The top lightweight crew, comprised of Kara Ethier (Knoxville, Tenn./Baylor School), Renee Cherkezian (Englewood Cliffs, N.J./Dwight-Englewood), Natacha Heffinck (Ankara, Turkey/George C. Marshall School), Emily Dempsey (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), and Caitlin Huntley (Bernhardt, N.Y./Nardin Academy), finished the course in 20:21.

The Hoyas will row next in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass., on Sunday, October 21.
