Crew Teams Row in Two Regattas

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Nov. 6) -- Georgetown University's men's and women's crew teams participated in two regattas this past weekend. The men's varsity heavyweights and lightweights raced on Saturday, November 4, against Navy at the Great Annapolis Head Race. The men's and women's novice crews raced in Charlottesville against the University of Virginia on Sunday, November 5.

In Annapolis, Georgetown boats finished second, fourth, and sixth in the men's varsity heavyweights race. The 'A' boat finished with a time of 6:33.5, the 'B' boat had a time of 6:50.0, and the 'C' boat posted a time of 7:22.5. The men's varsity lightweight 'A' team triumphed in their race, finishing with a time of 6:31.7.

The men's and women's novice crews were very successful against Virginia as well. In the novice men's race, Georgetown raced five boats as well as a Georgetown/UVA composite boat. The heavyweight 'A', 'B' and 'C' boats finished second, third and sixth with times of 13:53, 13:54 and 14:46, respectively. The lightweight 'A' boat finished fourth with a time of 13:56 and the lightweight 'B' crossed the finish line in 15:45. A shell containing both Georgetown and UVA rowers finished seventh with a time of 15:44.

The women's novice team entered two boats and one Georgetown/UVA composite boat in a head race of 4500 meters. The 'B' boat finished third with a time of 15:44, while the 'A' boat finished fifth with a time of 16:15. The composite entry cruised to a fourth-place finish with a time of 16:01.

The freshmen will be in action again on Sunday, November 12, at the Belly of the Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. The women will participate in the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Va., on Sunday, November 12.
