Sept. 5, 2008 DAVIDSON, N.C. - Sophomore Micaela O'Toole (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes) and junior Kristen Volpe (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) each scored second half goals, as the Georgetown field hockey team (0-3) fought to balance an early two goal deficit. But Davidson's Claire Perry broke the tie with less than three minutes left to defeat the Hoyas, 3-2. The Hoyas have made a habit of playing their best hockey when behind on the scoreboard. That held true after the Wildcats rushed out to a 2-0 first half lead behind goals by Krista Jackson and Christine Rau. GU would not go away quietly, as O'Toole played a ball from freshman Meggie Taylor (Ardmore, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy), that bounced in the circle into the top right corner of the cage to cut the Wildcats' lead in half. With 7:54 remaining, Volpe's reverse hit from the top of the circle found the back of the goal to tie the score at two. "We played completely different in the second than the first," head coach Tiffany Marsh said. "We started applying pressure on their back and Micaela and Volpe scored two of the nicest goals I've ever seen." GU could not hold off Davidson, as Perry converted Britti Himelfarb's pass into a goal with under three minutes remaining, as Davidson squeaked out a 3-2 victory. "Our ability to play from behind shows a lot about thee competitiveness that this tem has," Marsh said. "It's just about getting them how to play with that energy consistently." The Blue and Gray will stay travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for a Sunday game with defending NCAA Championship North Carolina at noon.
