Sept. 10, 2005

Box Score

WASHINGTON, DC - Georgetown field hockey (1-3) loses to Lehigh (2-4) 4-2 today on Kehoe Field. The Hoyas kept up with the Mountain Hawks shot for shot but could not capitalize on their opportunities.

The Hoyas fell behind quickly in the first half when Lehigh scored two goals in the first five minutes of play. The first was an unassisted goal from Christy Smith in the third minute. Less than two minutes later Marissa Iannarone received a corner shot and set up Kelsey Smith who passed to Mary Beth Kuenne who scored the second goal for the Mountain Hawks. The Hoyas struck back when freshman Katie Lachman (Bryn Mawr, PA) scored an unassisted goal to get GU on the scoreboard. This was Lachman's third goal in four games this season. The Hoyas went into the second half down 2-1.

The second half saw sophomore Deirdre McShea (Strafford, PA) score the equalizer goal for the Hoyas. Freshman Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, MD) put in the corner to junior Megan Cellucci (Malvern, PA), Cellucci then set up senior Caitlin Bump (Barrytown, NY) who passed it to an open McShea. The score was tied at two when Lehigh's Katie Noon found Maureen Harrington and shot the game-winning goal for the Mountain Hawks. Just three minutes later Harrington solidified Lehigh's lead by scoring off a pass from teammate Iannarone. The Hoyas fell just shy and lost 4-2.

The Hoyas return to the Hilltop this Wednesday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m. to face Drexel University.
