Field Hockey Downs Towson to Win First Road Game

Sept. 21, 2005

Box Score

TOWSON, MD - Georgetown field hockey (2-5) defeats Towson (6-3) 2-1 today on the road. This is their first win on the road in 2005. Freshman forward Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, MD) scored both goals for the Hoyas.

Towson took advantages of their opportunities in the first half and outshot the Hoyas 8-2. However, the Tigers could not complete any of their attempts on the goal and the first half went scoreless for both teams. The Hoyas went into the halftime tied at zero with the Tigers and eager to score.

The second half saw increased aggression from Georgetown as they improved their shots to four. Towson kept their intensity up as well and took seven shots in the second half, totaling 15 on the day. With a scoreless first half and a lull in activity freshman Maggie Farrand broke away and scored the first goal for the Hoyas with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game. One minute later Towson's Laura Passalacqua shot back and scored the equalizing goal for the Tigers off a penalty corner. As the Tigers were anticipating a possible overtime period, sophomore Lauren Sheets (Lutherville, MD) snuck a pass to Farrand who scored the game-winning goal and her second for the day giving the Hoyas a 2-1 victory.

Farrand now leads the Hoyas in points with 10 from three goals scored and four assists on the year.

Junior goalkeeper Abby Winer (Rising Sun, MD) made nine saves for the Hoyas giving her 22 for the year. Towson goalkeeper Christina Armer had three saves today.

The Hoyas return to the action this Saturday, September 22 at 1:00 p.m. in Easton, PA to take on the Lafayette Leopards.
